Madison Keys records first WTA Finals victory

World No 1 Angelique Kerber surrounded a semi-last spot at the WTA Finals by beating Simona Halep in straight sets in Singapore.

Kerber was heartless in dispatching the Romanian 6-4 6-2 in 82 minutes to secure her second triumph in the Red Group of the season-shutting competition.

While the match was nearer than the scoreline may propose, German Kerber could discover a consistency missing in her feisty partner, who attempted to locate a dependable cadence and showed up uniquely wobbly now and again.
