Federer not sure of his participation in Tokyo Olympics 2020

Tennis great Roger Federer is not sure if he will be going to Japan for participating in the summer olympic games in 2020. In an interview, Swiss star declares that his health, family will matter a lot when deciding participation in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

2020 Olympics‘ tennis events to kick off just after the two weeks of Wimbledon Championships and Federer has said that he will take final decision at that time. Federer is yet to win gold medal in Olympics singles stage since his competing in the event in 2000.



“I don’t know if I’m going to be playing there just because it’s still a year away. Even though the time is slowly coming around for me, in my mind, my team, my family, to find out what’s the best schedule after Wimbledon next year,” Federer said.

“Needless to say, the Olympics, the ones I played, have always been very memorable, either with carrying the flag, meeting my wife in 2000, winning gold, winning silver. Naturally it’s always going to be a possibility for me to play Tokyo if there is an exemption.”



38-year old Federer won gold in doubles at the 2008 Olympics. So it will be interesting to see if Federer participates in the Tokyo Olympics and can get singles gold medal before he retires from tennis. The next year’s Olympic games are scheduled to play from 24 July to 9 August.
