Coronavirus real threat for Summer Olympic Games, Euro 2020

This 2020 year has got something special about sports as we have got some top class sporting events in upcoming months. Summer Olympics and Euros are the favorite sports in 2020 Calendar and fans could get disappointment as the tournaments might be called off due to Coronavirus hit world wide.

2020 Olympic Games are scheduled to host in Tokyo which is not far away from China from which the virus originated and Corona has really made things worst for Japan in past few weeks. As of 29 February, a total of 241 Coronavirus cases were confirmed and it is spreading a bit in the country. China gets near to 80,000 meanwhile 3,100 cases were reported in South Korea.

International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound has made clear that if IOC thinks games can’t go as scheduled in Tokyo, they would be cancelled rather than moving to somewhere else or postponed.

“In and around that time, I’d say folks are going to have to ask: ‘Is this under sufficient control that we can be confident about going to Tokyo or not?’ A lot of things have to start happening. You’ve got to start ramping up your security, your food, the Olympic Village, the hotels. The media folks will be in there building their studios. If the IOC decides the games cannot go forward as scheduled in Tokyo, you’re probably looking at a cancellation,” Pound said to Associated Press.

Coronavirus has hit to Europe continent too. 12 countries in the region to host UEFA Euro 2020 championship and it would be really a set back for fans if tournament doesn’t take place. As per latest report from European media, near to 1300 Coronavirus cases were confirmed as on 1st March.



Football Association of Wales’ Chief Executive Jonathan Ford has already made clear that health is first and sports is second. Can’t risk with health and the way disease is spreading, its serious concern for us. “We’re due to be playing Italy in Rome during Euros but it has to be health first — sport second,” Ford said.



It would be a disaster for sporting lovers all around the globe if these two tournaments couldn’t take place. Doctors are trying best to find treatment for Coronavirus and people must follow all instructions to get prevention from the disease.

Olympics 2020 are scheduled to take place from 24 July meanwhile European championship to be played between 12 June and 12 July.
