Olympics 2020 to be cancelled if doesn’t happen in 2021- IOC

International Olympic Committee head Thomas Bach has made clear that if already postponed 2020 summer Olympic games don’t take place next year, the games will be cancelled and will not be scheduled further.

In March, Tokyo games organizing committee, IOC and Japan government took decision together to not host event scheduled to kick off in July 2020. The decision was made due to spread of noval coronavirus around the globe.

Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe has already cleared that Olympic games will not happen even in 2021 if COVID-19 doesn’t controlled. In a recent interview to BBC, IOC chief confirmed his stance with the understanding of Japan PM as well.

“Quite frankly, I have some understanding for this, because you can’t forever employ 3,000 or 5,000 people in an organising committee.” Bach said in the interview.

Tomas stated that it’s really difficult to change the dates every year and hard to convince all federations to make adjustments with their schedule.

“We have established one principle: to organise these Games in a safe environment for all the participants. Nobody knows what the world will look like in one year, in two months. So we have to rely on [experts] and then take the appropriate decision at the appropriate time based on this advice,” he added.

Summer Olympic games are scheduled to play from 23rd July 2021.
